Stung Treng Province, in northeastern Cambodia, is known for its stunning natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture. Situated along the Mekong River, the province offers visitors a variety of experiences, from ancient temples to lush rainforests and immersive encounters with local communities. Historically, Stung Treng has been part of the Khmer Empire and the Lao kingdoms of Lan Xang and Champasak. After the Franco-Siamese crisis, it was administered by French Lower Laos (1893–1904) before being transferred to the French Protectorate of Cambodia. The province also witnessed mid-20th-century communist insurgencies and U.S. bombings. Covering around 11,092 km², Stung Treng borders Laos, Ratanakiri, Preah Vihear, Kratié, and Kampong Thom. Its landscape features extensive forests, rivers, including the Sekong, Sesan, and Mekong and numerous islands, as well as part of Virachey National Park, making it a haven for nature and adventure lovers.
